Exciting news — Tableau has opened up nominations for the 2024 Ambassadors! 🌟 I’ve crafted this guide to help you through the nomination process, including what’s needed and how to gather the right information. For 2024, Tableau continues with its seven Ambassador groups. Tableau’s community is brimming with potential candidates who are eager to collaborate in shaping the future of our beloved tool and its community. Thinking back, being named a Tableau Ambassador in 2020 was a game-changer. It was a moment of immense pride and recognition, and it opened doors I hadn’t imagined. This honor comes with a significant responsibility — a challenge I embrace year-round. Tableau’s dedication to our community is remarkable, supporting us in leading the charge toward greater inclusion and engagement.
So, what makes someone ‘worthy’ of becoming an Ambassador? It’s about looking ahead and ensuring every voice is included. While everyone has their criteria, consider these key points:
- Diversity and Representation: Prioritize nominees who enhance the inclusivity and representation of our community. Look beyond the familiar faces to those bringing unique perspectives.
- Excellence and Versatility: Ambassadors should excel in at least one area but be capable of contributing to multiple groups. Consider their potential for a broad positive impact.
- Commitment and Presence: The role of an Ambassador involves year-round volunteering. Choose individuals who will actively contribute even after the initial excitement fades.

What Do You Need to Nominate Someone?
Here’s a handy checklist for nominating someone:
Required Information:
- Nominee’s name
- Ambassador group for the nomination
- Contact info (email preferred)
- Reasons why they’d be an excellent addition
Group-Specific Info:
- Tableau User Group: If they lead one
- Academic — Student: Degree program, expected graduation, extracurriculars | Educator: School and ways to partner with Tableau
- DataDev: Their activity in the DataDev program
Additional Information:
- Social Media (LinkedIn, Twitter, Tableau Public)
- Links to their work (up to six blogs, sites, and initiatives)
- Highlighted contributions to the community
Pro-Tip: Nominate yourself if you want to be ambassador. Not only should you be your best advocate but Tableau will know you are genuinely interested in ambassadorship.
